Performance evaluation of a thermoacoustic refrigerator.
Author(s) : MINNER B. L., BRAUN J. E., MONGEAU L.
Summary
A basic thermoacoustic cooling device was optimized for a domestic refrigerator application to obtain high COP predictions. The model was validated using experimental results reported for one working prototype. The design was optimized for three heat exchanger types. Optimized device COP 's ranged from 1.7 to 3.0, depending upon the heat exchanger type and geometry constraints. The results suggest that the performance of thermoacoustic cooling systems may be comparable with vapour compression technology. More research is needed to confirm these results and evaluate the economic viability of thermoacoustics.
