A PROCEDURE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR PRODUCING A THIN LAYER OF SINTERED PLATINUM POWDER WITH A VERY LARGE SURFACE AREA, A RELATIVELY LOW ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY, AND A REASONABLY SMALL VOID VOLUME. THIS LAYER HAS BEEN BONDED TO A COPPER SAMPLE CELL AND USED TO COOL SOLID HELIUM 3 TO 0.7 MILLIK.
