Summary
The need for and potential benefits of applying the "internal method" for performance analyses of refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump applications are presented. The internal method is based on easy to apply sensors (seven temperatures, two pressures and active power). By applying thermophysical calculation the COP and capacity can be determined with good accuracy. Also the performance and behaviour of each component in the system can be established and documented. This can be done without flow meters or any data from manufacturer. As the internal method can be applied to any plant in 20-30 minutes without need of preinstalled equipment or need to stop the system. It is a cost-effectiveness "tool" to optimise systems and decrease environmental impact and cost of operating refrigeration processes. Experiences from practical use are presented.
