Summary

SUPERCONDUCTING DEVICES FOR ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL SIGNAL TREATMENT ARE REVIEWED ALONG WITH A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPERTIES OF THESE NEW SUPERCONDUCTORS. THE POTENTIAL CONTRIBUTIONOF HIGH-TEMPERATURE MATERIALS IN THE FIELD OF ANALOGUE TREATMENT IS EVALUATED IN DETAIL. THE DETECTION OF INFRARED AND (SUB)MILLIMETRIC RAYS ARE EXAMINED SEPARATELY. FOR (SUB)MILLIMETRIC WAVES, DETECTION IS EITHER HETERODYNE OR QUADRATIC. IN MAGNETOMETRY, SQUID SUPERCONDUCTOR PICK-OFF DEVICES ARE THE MOST SENSITIVE, EVEN FOR FREQUENCY MODULATIONS OF MAGNETIC FIELDS LOWER THAN 1 HERTZ.
