Type of article: Article

Summary

A GENERAL-PURPOSE EXPRESSION FOR PREDICTING EXTERNAL NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER FROM THREE-DIMENSIONAL BODIES OF ARBITRARY SHAPE IS EXTENDED TO COVER A WIDER RANGE OF PRANDTL NUMBERS BETWEEN 0.71 AND 2,000. THE PREDICTIONS FROM THIS EXPRESSION ARE COMPARED WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA OF SEVERAL RESEARCHERS OVER THE RANGE OF RAYLEIGH NUMBERS BETWEEN 1 MILLION AND 10,000 MILLIARDS FOR PRANDTL NUMBERS OF APPROXIMATELY 10 AND 2,000. THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE PREDICTIONS AND THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA IS VERY GOOD WITH ROOT MEAN SQUARE DIFFERENCES OF LESS THAN 10% IN ALL CASES.
