Summary
For isolated cells, the standard technique applied today is the freezing of the extracellular medium only, but this method of freezing cannot be considered for whole organs because of the complexity of tissues and the vascular system. For organs, the best way nowadays is to vitrify them. An increase in the preservation times would improve transplantation conditions allowing surgeons to perform more compatibility tests and to verify the absence of viral infection.
