Summary

Despite the fact that the desiccation and solar regeneration air treatment technique has been studied in several recent research works, only very few studies have focused on the particular areas having a high rate of sunlight and situated in semi-arid climates regions. Herein experimental of results obtained from a solar air cooling plant by desiccation by using full scale specimens and under close conditions simulating semi-arid climates are presented and discussed. The test protocols used consist on imposing controlled conditions for the inlet air of the desiccant wheel as well as the regeneration side. The purpose was to characterize the desiccation potential in terms of the regeneration temperature, and the capacity of the plant to ensure satisfactory blowing conditions.
Several series of measurements have been carried out with encouraging results. It has been noticed that the desiccant wheel has always dried the air, and hence creating a potential for cooling. The main conclusion which may be drawn from this study is that the obtained results are promoters as to the relevance of this technique for the climate and can be appropriate for northern Algeria.
