Summary

MAGNETIC SEPARATION IS BASED ON THE DIFFERENT SUSCEPTIBILITIES OF THE PARTICLES TO BE SEPARATED. IT INVOLVES A DIVERGENT MAGNETIC FIELD. SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS ARE PROMISING, MAINLY IN THE DOMAIN OF OPEN GRADIENT MAGNETIC SEPARATORS. THIS PRINCIPLE USES LOW MAGNETIC FIELD GRADIENTS. THE FIELD ITSELF SHOULD HAVE A HIGH INTENSITY FOR THE SEPARATION OF PARTICLES WITH MODERATE SUSCEPTIBILITY. HOWEVER, THE MAGNETIC FORCES ARE LIMITED TO SOME GN CUBIC METRE USING HIGH INTENSITY SUPERCONDUCTORS. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE FORCES ARE EXTENDED IN SPACE. THUS THE WHOLE SEPARATION PROCESS MAY BE SIMPLE.
