Summary
Provision of energy efficient and healthy indoor environmental quality (IEQ) solutions is essential because of potential social, economic, and environmental benefits of better IEQ conditions. Providing such solutions is even more important in elementary schools classrooms that accommodate children which are potentially more vulnerable to poor IEQ conditions than teenagers and adults. However, there are limited studies in the literature providing combination of energy efficient and healthy IEQ solutions knowledge professionals in the industry need to reduce potential IEQ problems in schools’ classrooms. This study provides such solutions to address IEQ problems observed in eight elementary schools in the UAE. Schools classrooms IEQ conditions data were collected using physical instruments to identify the need for providing the solutions. Poor IEQ conditions were observed in all the studied classrooms. Solutions required for achieving energy efficient and healthy classrooms were provided.
