An alternative treated fresh air supply system for high-rise buildings in humid climates and energy savings in UAE.

Author(s) : ELSARRAG E.

Summary

In this paper, a chemical cooling and dehumidification system is tested for the ventilation requirements in UAE (high latent load). The effect of the dehumidification cooling processes is compared with the vapour compression system. Reductions of about 7 to 10°C in the wet bulb temperature and about 10 g/kg in the humidity ratio are obtained from the dehumidifier. The energy savings in Abu Dhabi using the desiccant cooling and dehumidification system during summer season are reported. It is found that the power consumption used to produce heated fresh air by the desiccant system can reduce about 50% of the existing system.
