Summary
The pulse tube refrigerator turns out to be an attractive alternative for small cryocoolers with input powers up to 6 kilowatts. The paper describes the working principle of pulse tube cryocoolers and discusses some of the currently most interesting activities. Results of the common activities of University and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe in this field are presented.
