Summary

A METHOD IS DESCRIBED FOR ON-SITE TESTING OF THE QUALITY OF COLD STORE INSULATION. HERE DEFECTS CAN OFTEN OCCUR AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF INSULATING PREFABRICATED PANELS. SURFACE TEMPERATURE MAPS OF THE WALLS OF AN ACTUAL COLD STORE, OBTAINED FROM INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY, WERE COMPARED WITH ONES CALCULATED BY A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF THE THERMAL INSUL THIS MATHEMATICAL MODEL, WHICH IS BASED ON THE FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD, MADE IT POSSIBLE ALSO TO EVALUATE QUANTITATIVELY THE EFFECT OF THE THERMAL SHORTS THAT RESULT FROM THE CONNECTION BETWEEN ADJOINING PANELS, AS WELL AS THE REDUCTION OF THE INSULATING POWER RESULTING FROM INADEQUATE ASSEMBLING PROCEDURES.
