Radiation shield in cryogenic system for 21 T FT-ICR superconducting magnets.

Author(s) : LEE B. S., KIM D. L., CHOI Y. S., et al.

Summary

Thermal design of radiation shield for a 21 T Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) superconducting magnet system is presented. The intermediate radiation shield is thermally anchored to the first-stage cold head of cryocooler, and the inner radiation shield is connected to the 4.2 K helium reservoir, which is thermally anchored to the second-stage cold head of cryocooler. The amount of cryogenic heat loads is estimated by a relevant heat transfer analysis. The temperature distributions of radiation shield are determined by numerical method and compared with the results by commercial code, ANSYS.
