Summary
Following a brief presentation of the LNG industry, the article discusses the economic and political conditions that justified the development of this new mode of energy transport. The technical and economic aspects of liquefaction, storage and overseas transport of LNG are presented. In conclusion, indications are given on the past development and future outlook of the world LNG market.
