Summary

IN THE LAST FEW YEARS CONSIDERABLE ADVANCES HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPORTANCE OF VARIOUS FACTORS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MULTIFILAMENTARY NIOBIUM-TITANIUM SUPERCONDUCTORS. THE INCENTIVE HAS BEEN THE DESIRE FOR IMPROVED CABLES FOR THE SUPERCONDUCTING SUPER COLLIDER DIPOLE AND QUADRUPOLE MAGNETS. THE FOCUS OF THE WORK DESCRIBED HAS BEEN ON THE STRAND FOR THESE CABLES. DEVELOPMENTS WHICH HAVE LED TO THE PRESENT KNOWLEDGE WILL BE OUTLINED IN ADDITION TO THE PROBLEM AREAS WHICH NEED FURTHER INVESTIGATION.
