Recent developments of sorption chillers in Europe.

Author(s) : JAKOB U., KOHLENBACH P.

Summary

In Europe, various new sorption chillers with small- and medium-scale cooling capacity have been developed during the last few years. Many of these absorption and adsorption chillers have now passed over from the prototype stage to small serial production, so that a rising amount of products is expected. In general, thermal cooling by solar energy, district heat or waste heat from CHP units, biomass as well as processes could be lead to a considerable reduction in energy consumption. In the cooling capacity range up to 500 kW, several new products of water/lithium bromide and ammonia/water absorption chillers as well as water/silica gel and water/zeolith adsorption chillers are market-ready available in Europe. Therefore, the latest sorption chiller developments in Europe as well as system suppliers are presented. See also this issue of the Bulletin, reference 2010-1878.
