Summary
Theoretical and practical analysis shows that a well composed refrigeration mixture, especially that including natural gases, can be used successfully in a one-stage low-temperature refrigeration appliance, for producing and keeping temperatures at about -80°C or even lower. In this paper, theoretical analysis of the phenomena taking place in a one-stage refrigeration cycle with an autocascade, working with a two-component refrigeration mixture, is presented. The paper also discusses the results of mathematical modelling based on the heat balance of a condenser that allows the estimation of a mixture composition during each point of the refrigeration cycle and the mixture mass flow rate. The theoretical analysis has been verified by experimental tests made in COCH (Refrigeration Research and Development Centre in Poland) on a prototype of a one-stage refrigeration cycle with an autocascade, in which a mixture of R23 and propane was used.
