Summary

After some background on refrigerating systems, this extract from a series in the French journal "Techniques de l'Ingénieur" discusses single-stage, mechanical compression refrigerating cycles, with plotting of cycles, examining of single-stage machines, effect of operating conditions on its features and control of refrigerating capacity. A section is devoted to multi-stage, compression cycles, and in particular, to two-stage machines. Also discussed are cascade refrigerating cycles and refrigerants used.
