THE AIR CONDITIONING IN A SPACE SHUTTLE MUST BE SEEN IN A WIDE SCOPE, FOR IT PROVIDES NOT JUST COMFORT, BUT ALSO A HABITABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE FLIGHT CREW. THE OFFICIAL NAME FOR THIS SYSTEM IS: ENVIRONMENTAL-CONTROL AND LIFE-SUPPORT SYSTEM (ECLSS). THE ECLSS CONSISTS OF AN AIR-REVITALIZATION SYSTEM, WATER-COOLANT LOOP SYSTEMS, ATMOSPHERE-REVITALIZATION PRESSURE-CONTROL SYSTEM, ACTIVE THERMAL CONTROL SYSTEM, WATER-SUPPLY AND WASTE-WATER SYSTEM, WASTE-COLLECTION SYSTEM AND AIR LOCK-SUPPORT SYSTEM.
