THE AUTHOR REVIEWS SOME OF THE CHANGES WHICH HAVE TAKEN PLACE IN REFRIGERATED ROAD AND RAIL TRANSPORT, IN PARTICULAR THE RISE AND FALL OF CRYOGENIC SYSTEMS AND PROPOSES THAT REFRIGERATION TECHNOLOGY HAS REACHED A PLATEAU IN THESE AREAS OF TRANSPORT. ON THE OTHER HAND, AIR TRANSPORT REFRIGERATION IS VIRTUALLY NON EXISTENT WITH ONLY 0.5% OF THE WORLD'S AIR CONTAINERS BEING INSULATED OR REFRIGERATED AND MOST OF THESE HAVE NO PROPER TEMPERATURE CONTROL.
