Summary

THE REGULATION CHARACTERISTICS (STATIC) OF THE AIR COOLER ARE USED AS THE FUNDAMENTAL BASIS FOR SELECTING THE TYPE OF CONTROL ACTION AND THE PROPER DESIGN AND SIZING OF THE CONTROL VALVE. AT PRESENT, THESE CHARACTERISTICS ARE OBTAINED VIA SEVERAL CALCULATIONS FOR AIR COOLER PERFORMANCE BY ALTERING THE REGULATING PARAMETERS, THUS INVOLVING MUCH CALCULATION WORK. IN THIS PAPER, A SERIES OF EQUATIONS (DIMENSIONLESS) HAVE BEEN DERIVED AND ARE SUITABLE FOR OBTAINING CHARACTERISTICS IN RELATION TO TEMPERATURE, WATER AND AIR FLOW REGULATION RESPECTIVELY. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE REGULATING AND REGULATED PARAMETERS IS CLEARLY EXPRESSED BY THE EQUATIONS MENTIONED ABOVE. THEY CAN ALSO BE USED AS A GUIDE FOR ESTIMATING SUCH CHARACTERISTICS OF OTHER TYPES OF HEAT AND MASS EXCHANGERS.
