Cost-effective refurbishment of existing HVAC systems, some of which may be 40 years old, requires an understanding of the original design. It may be possible to use serviceable plant for an improved system. Advice is given on the conversion of reheat, dual duct, multizone, induction and other systems. Newer plant may have insufficient fresh air supply to meet indoor air quality standards. Piping may need replacement. An overall strategy must be planned. A.R.T.
