Summary
To study the reliability characteristics of space Stirling cryocoolers, four things were presented in this paper. Firstly, the status and development of space Stirling coolers was introduced. Secondly, failure analysis was done, and the four crucial failure modes affecting cooler's long-life running were wear, gaseous contamination, helium leakage and fatigue. Then, some experiments were designed and carried to quantitatively analyze the relationship between failure and performance in detail. Finally, according to each failure mechanism, the measures taken to control or minimize its damage were discussed, and some procedure criteria to guarantee cooler's long-term running were given.
