Summary

RESEARCH HAS BEEN MADE ON SEED GERMPLASM PRESERVATION OF 21 KINDS OF SEEDS INCLUDING GRAIN, VEGETABLES, FLOWERS AND MEDICINAL HERBS STORED IN LIQUID NITROGEN FOR 42 MONTHS. OTHER 17 KINDS OF SEED WERE STORED IN LIQUID NITROGEN FOR 7 DAYS. MOST TESTED SEEDS CAN BE HELD IN LN2 WITHOUT LOSS OF VIABILITY. THE PRESENT STUDY SHOWS THAT THE GERMINATION RATE OF SEEDS STORED IN LIQUID NITROGEN IS HIGHER THAN THAT FOR THE CONTROL SAMPLES.
