Summary
The present paper proposes a review of thermodynamics applied to reverse cycle's machines. This review is focused on vapour compression refrigerating machines and heat pump. It is shown, that since the 80's new modelling insight is based on what is said Finite Time Thermodynamics. Irreversibilities appear essential to describe real machines. Consequences on design optimization are given, as well as utility for engineers to mix thermodynamics with economical considerations.
