Summary
Several European directives (e.g. the Machinery Directive and the Pressure Equipment Directive) specify that before designing a machine or installation one has to carry out risk analysis. Furthermore, during designing and manufacturing, one has to take into account the results of those analyses. The article discusses risk analysis and an attempt is made to convince the reader that a legal obligation could be useful. Some examples on how to handle risk analysis are also given.
