Since South Africa voluntarily signed the Montreal Protocol on 15 January 1990, and subsequently complied with the London Amendment in 1992, the Copenhagen Amendment in 2001, and the Montreal and Beijing Amendment in 2004, the country has been taking the first steps to phasing out CFCs with HCFCs.
