SAVE WITH HYBRID REFRIGERATION.

Summary

THE AUTHOR ILLUSTRATES THE ENERGY SAVINGS THAT CAN BE MADE IN A SYNTHETIC FUEL REFINING PLANT BY THE USE OF AN AMMONIA ABSORPTION SYSTEM IN COMBINATION WITH A PROPYLENE COMPRESSION SYSTEM IN PLACE OF A TWO-STAGE COMPRESSION SYSTEM. THE ILLUSTRATION SHOWS THE ABSORPTION UNIT PROVIDING A HIGH-TEMPERATURE REFRIGERATION DUTY AND ALSO COOLING THE CONDENSER OF THE COMPRESSION PLANT. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWERS THE CONDENSING TEMPERATURE AND ALLOWS LOW-TEMPERATURE PROPYLENE EVAPORATION TO BE PRODUCED WITH A SINGLE STAGE COMPRESSOR. THE NATURE OF THE REFINING PLANT ALLOWS LOW PRESSURE STEAM TO BE AVAILABLE FOR ENERGY INPUT TO THE ABSORPTION SYSTEM. THE REDUCTION IN ANNUAL COST IS APPROXIMATELY 15% IN THE CASE ILLUSTRATED.
