Absorption refrigeration in a refinery.
Refrigerazione ad assorbimento per una raffineria.
Author(s) : ERIKSON D. C., PAPAR R., ANAND G.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Absorption systems are rarely used in the oil industry, in spite of the availability of heat sources and opportunity for heat recovery. The authors describe the first example of an ammonia absorption plant directly integrated into an oil refinery. This plant was implemented in an American refinery in Denver, Colorado. It allows the recuperation of benzene and LPG and reduces CO2 release. The authors summarize the refining process and describe the various components of the plant, then conclude by giving information on costs and advantages of the system.
