Summary

The paper examines the energy benefits obtained using a new generation of oil-free centrifugal compressors with magnetic bearings levitate, controlled by an inverter. Thanks to the innovative technology of the magnetic bearing levitation, the impeller can work at an extremely high speed (higher than 40 000 rpm). The size, the weight of the compressor and the material wear are reduced. The system is totally oil-free. The seasonal energy efficiency (measured by the IPLV and EMPE indexes) is high thanks to the absence of the oil in the circuit and to cooling capacity control based on the reduction of the impeller rotation, obtained with an inverter.
