Summary

DESCRIPTION OF A NOVEL METHOD OF CALCULATING ROOM HEAT LOSSES SHOWING THAT TRANSMISSION HEAT LOSSES COULD BE CALCULATED ON THE BASIS OF THE COMFORT TEMPERATURE, CLOSE TO THE RESULTANT TEMPERATURE (THE AVERAGE OF THE AIR TEMPERATURE AND THE MEAN RADIANT TEMPERATURE OF ALL THE ROOM SURROUNDING SURFACES), AND THAT A HEAT EXCHANGE COEFFICIENT H1 SHOULD BE USED WITH A CONSTANT VALUE OF 8.9 W/M2 K. AS THE THESIS HAS NOT MADE A BREAKTHROUGH IN PRACTICE DESPITE THE UNEQUIVOCAL FINDING THAT THE CALCULATIONS CAN BE CARRIED OUT ON THE BASIS SIMPLY OF THE RESULTANT TEMPERATURE AND VALUES OF H1 WHICH ARE MORE OR LESS CONSTANT, PROVIDES A FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM WHICH INCLUDES SOME SIMPLIFIED HYPOTHESES.
