Sensitivity analysis of night cooling with natural ventilation.

Summary

A dynamic simulation of the ventilation processes and the thermal behaviour of an office building is developed. This is used to investigate two aspects of night cooling with natural ventilation: the control strategies and the required ventilation opening area. The allowable internal heat gain for a high inertia is 27-33 W/m2. For a medium inertia building this is 22-26 W/m2. Night cooling with natural ventilation is not suitable for a light inertia building. Based on the outputs of large series of simulation runs, two user friendly design tools are developed: a graphical chart and a set of simplified equations.
