Summary

BASED ON THE FLOW VISUALIZATION STUDY AND DETAILED MEASUREMENTS OF LOCAL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT, THE NUSSELT-REYNOLDS CORRELATIONS ARE PROPOSED FOR SHELL-SIDE HEAT TRANSFER IN SEGMENTALLY BAFFLED TUBULAR HEAT EXCHANGERS. IN THE 1ST-STAGE BAFFLE COMPARTMENT, THE ZUKAUSKAS CORRELATION FOR HEAT TRANSFER FROM TUBE BUNDLES WORKS WELL IF LOCAL VELOCITY IS ESTIMATED FROM THE FLOW MODEL WHICH ASSUMES SPREAD OF FLOW FROM THE INLET THROUGH THE TUBE BUNDLE. IN THE 2ND AND SUBSEQUENT COMPARTMENTS, THE FLOW PATTERN BECOMES INVARIANT, AND AN APPROPRIATE CORRELATION IS DERIVED. (BULL. JSME, JP., 27, N 232, 1984/10, 2319.
