Simple modelling of flow maldistribution in plate-fin exchangers.

Summary
The paper presents the use of the HTFS MUSE programme for design and simulation calculations with plate-fin exchangers. A simple method for estimating the thermal impact of flow maldistribution within layers has been demonstrated. This has been useful for situations where satisfactory flow distribution cannot be achieved by conventional means, or without entailing excessive power or exchanger costs. It is important for designers to be able to assess such impacts as plate-fin exchangers become more tightly designed using current process simulators.
