Slow light in cool atoms.
Author(s) : MARANGOS J.
Type of article: Article
Summary
An experiment with atoms at nanokelvin temperatures has produced the remarkable observation of light pulses travelling at velocities of only 17 m/s. The large optical nonlinearities seen in this system may open up new opportunities in quartum optics.
