SOME PROBLEMS IN THE RATING OF COOLING COILS. ARI STANDARD 410 REVISITED.

Summary

THE BASIS OF THE RATING METHOD USED BY MANUFACTURERS OF COOLING COILS IS ALMOST UNIVERSALLY THE ARI 410 STANDARD. ALTHOUGH THE TEXT DATING FROM 1930 WAS APPROPRIATE, THEN, ONE HAS TO ACCEPT THAT EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION POSSIBILITIES HAVE CONSIDERABLY IMPROVED ; THUS, IT MIGHT BE NECESSARY TO REVISE AND EXTEND THE STANDARD TO VERY LOW FACE VELOCITIES, FOR PARTIAL LOAD IN VARIABLE AIR VOLUME SYSTEMS, WHICH ARE EVEN USED WITH PEAK LOADS IN THE LOW VELOCITY MODE. THE AUTHORS EXAMINE THE ARI 410 STANDARD AND ANALYZE THE VALIDITY OF CERTAIN EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT ASSUMPTIONS, AS WELL AS BASIC EXPERIMENTAL DATA. THEY CONCLUDE THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO REVISE IT.
