Some remarks about helium cryogenic expansion turbines.
Author(s) : GISTAU-BAGUER G.
Summary
In a refrigerating system, the cryogenic expander is one of the most important components. After having logically dealt with reciprocating machines and having found a limit in size and reliability, the industry moved to rotating machines, namely turbines. Even if a turbine is a common component, the author noticed that, at least in the cryogenic community, it is still considered as a mysterious machine. So, he would like to clear up some points that are generally not very well known by users. The paper is part of a series of lessons on cryogenic helium refrigeration that the author gives to various cryogenic communities.
