Summary
The Texas Instrument's 1.0 watt tactical cryocooler was selected to cool the focal plane assembly on the STRV-2 MWIR (Space Test Research Vehicle 2) . A rigorous series of flight qualification tests were developed and conducted on a set of four of these cryocoolers (and associated control electronics cards) in order to characterize cooler performance under the stressing environments of launch and space operations. The paper discusses the development of the test plan, the test stand and instrumentation, and environmental controls.
