Summary

Within a joint project supported by the Free State of Saxony, a novel bearing and transport system was developed. The prototype is based on the combination of the magnetic bearing technique using high-temperature superconductors with a non-contacting linear drive. This non-contacting "lift" is free from friction and contamination due to wear and therefore suitable for applications in clean rooms e.g. in microelectronic technology.
