Specific needs for the use of cryotechnical materials.
Besoins spécifiques pour l'emploi des matériaux en ambiance cryotechnique.

Summary
The materials used for the cryotechnical propulsion system of the Ariane 5 rocket presented special difficulties, since their usual properties change appreciably in a cryogenic medium. Special tests had to be developed, alloys had to be developed that are capable of withstanding extreme operating conditions, and suitable metallurgical processes had to be designed.
