THIS SIMPLE CRYOCOOLER USES A NOVEL ADAPTATION OF THE SIMON EXPANSION LIQUEFIER TO PROVIDE A SMALL RESERVOIR OF LIQUID HELIUM AND CONTINUOUS COOLING AT 4.2 K. THE DESIGN STRESSES SIMPLICITY AND RELIABILITY THROUGH THE ABSENCE OF ANY ORIFICES OR MOVING PARTS AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES EXCEPT FOR A CONVENTIONAL GIFFORD-MCMAHON CRYOCOOLER.
