Summary
The increasing market penetration of ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) in Austria, Germany and Switzerland has made it necessary to establish standards and technical guidelines for their design and installation. Such regulations are especially crucial for vertical borehole heat exchangers for which no widespread knowledge exists with engineers and contractors. The article provides an overview of existing standards and regulations on GSHPs in central Europe including a new initiative in Germany to develop technical guidelines.
