R134A HAS THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES SIMILAR TO THOSE OF R12. SINCE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE MINERAL OILS ARE NOT MISCIBLE WITH R134A, A SERIES OF ALTERNATIVE LUBRICANTS IS BEING DEVELOPED TODAY. POLYALKYLENE GLYCOL AND ESTERS ARE EXAMPLES. THE PAPER REVIEWS RESULTS TO DATE FROM COMPRESSOR LIFE TESTING OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF POLYGLYCOLS. WEAR AND COPPER PLATING CHARACTERISTICS WERE MONITORED AND ARE PRESENTED.
