Summary

THE ANALYTICAL MODEL IS BASED ON A LUMPED PARAMETER DESCRIPTION OF THE SYSTEM THAT INCLUDES THE THERMOHYDRAULICS OF VAPOUR CORE, LIQUID FILM, AND LIQUID POOL OF THE EVAPORATOR. THE STEADY STATE SOLUTIONS AND THE LINEAR STABILITY ANALYSIS OF THE GOVERNING EQUATIONS REVEALED THE EXISTENCE OF TWO OPERATING LIMITS: ONE ASSOCIATED WITH FLOODING AND THE OTHER WITH DRYING OF THE LIQUID IN THE EVAPORATOR. A PARAMETRIC STUDY WAS ALSO PERFORMED TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF HEAT PIPE GEOMETRY, LIQUID FILLING, AND FLUID CHARACTERISTICS ON THE OPERATING LIMITS.
