Type of article: Article

Summary

In Switzerland, a Stirling-Stirling heat pump system has been developed whose characteristics suitably fit the many requirements imposed on small domestic heating units. Many of the difficulties associated with more conventional Stirling technology have been overcome by using a resonating gas column to transfer mechanical energy. The article compares the proposed concept with some alternative concepts and describes the progress made so far in the development and demonstration of this technology.
