Summary

TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON JONATHAN, GOLDEN DELICIOUS AND STARKRIMSON IN ORCHARDS WITH A DENSITY VARYING BETWEEN 714-1,000 TREES/HA AND 1,250-2,380 TREES/HA. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT VARIETY, HARVESTING, ORIGIN AND STORAGE CONDITIONS HAVE A GREATER EFFECT ON STORAGE LIFE THAN DENSITY OF TREES IN THE ORCHARD. THE APPLES HARVESTED IN ORCHARDS WITH 1,250-2,380 TREES/HA, 4 TO 7 YEAR OLD, CAN BE KEPT ABOUT 6 MONTHS IN COLD STORES AND CAN BE STORED ABOUT 7 MONTHS UNDER CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE.
