THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES A 1,000 TON (3,480 KILOW) HVAC AND PROCESS COOLING SYSTEM THAT REPLACED NUMEROUS OLD DX AND CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS AT THE GEC TELEVISION TUBE MANUFACTURING PLANT IN SYRACUSE, NEW YORK. THE INSTALLATION IS A PROTOTYPE FOR A SECOND 1,000 TON SYSTEM TO BE INSTALLED IN THE FUTURE. A SYSTEM SCHEMATIC AND A PRESSURE/ENTHALPY DIAGRAM OF THE CYCLE ARE GIVEN. OTHER DIAGRAMS SHOW TYPICAL COOLING AND HEATING APPLICATIONS. GENERAL DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE NEW 1,000 TON OPEN CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR AND THE ASSOCIATED PUMPED REFRIGERANT SYSTEM.
