Study on heat transfer of plate-fin type generator for absorption machine.

Summary

A plate-fin heat exchanger was newly used for the generator of an absorption machine. This allows the generator to be significantly more compact and improves the start-up characteristics due to the expected reduction of the absorption solution charge. Two types of generators, a once-through type and a falling-film type were designed to be fed with hot water. The authors evaluated the applicability of the plate-fin type generator by comparing it with the conventional type, and investigated the effects of the structure on the heat transfer performance and design indices. It was found that both types could be made one-third more compact than the conventional type.
