Summary

THE AUTHORS REPORT THE OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A MEMBRANE TYPE OF MANOSTAT AND OF A THROTTLE VALVE SYSTEM WHICH THEY HAVE CONSTRUCTED TO REGULATE THE PRESSURE ABOVE THE LIQUID-HELIUM BATH. IN THE MEMBRANE TYPE OF MANOSTAT, THE TEMPERATURE IS DETERMINED WITH AN ACCURACY LIMITED BY THE FLUCTUATIONS OF TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE AROUND THE MEAN VALUE T. WITH THROTTLE VALVES, THE ACCURACY IS LIMITED BY THE DRIFT OF T IN TIME. THE PERFORMANCE OF BOTH DEVICES PROVE TO BE SUFFICIENTLY GOOD AND THE NEED FOR ELECTRONIC REGULATIONS IS THUS EXCEPTIONAL.
