Summary

THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS OF BOTH FLUIDS IN CROSSFLOW HEAT EXCHANGERS ARE ANALYTICALLY DETERMINED. THE ENERGY EQUATIONS ARE SOLVED ASSUMING THAT THE FLUIDS REMAIN UNMIXED AND SINGLE-PHASED. THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM METHOD IS APPLIED TO THE BALANCE EQUATIONS WITH ARBITRARY INLET TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION ; THE CLOSE SOLUTION IS EXPRESSED IN TERMS OF AN INTEGRAL INVOLVING EXPONENTIALS AND MODIFIED BESSEL FUNCTIONS OF THE FIRST KIND.
